Lovisa Chinook Centre retail renovation —
storefront entrance by HL Contracting Calgary Alberta

Retail Renovation Calgary — Lovisa at Chinook Centre

Retail renovation inside an active shopping mall is a different kind of challenge. You're not working in an empty building. You're working surrounded by open businesses, foot traffic, mall management requirements, and a landlord with strict rules about construction hours, noise, and dust control.

When Lovisa — one of Australia's largest fashion jewellery retailers — needed a complete renovation of their Chinook Centre location in Calgary, HL Contracting delivered from demo to finished retail space in two months.

About the Project

Client: Lovisa

Location: Chinook Centre, Calgary, Alberta

Scope: Complete retail renovation — full demo and interior finishing

Timeline: Completed in 2 months

From the moment demo began to the final coat of paint and fixture installation — every stage was coordinated to meet Chinook Centre's requirements and Lovisa's opening timeline.

What Retail Mall Renovation Requires Working inside an active shopping centre adds a layer of complexity that standalone retail renovation doesn't have. Mall management requirements — Chinook Centre, like all major Calgary malls, has strict construction guidelines.

Hours of work, hoarding requirements, dust and noise control, elevator and loading dock scheduling — all of this needs to be coordinated with mall management before a single tool hits the floor.

Demo and disposal — a complete demo means stripping the space back to shell condition. Walls, flooring, fixtures, ceiling — everything removed and disposed of properly while maintaining a clean and safe work environment in an active retail corridor.

Interior finishing to brand standards — retail brands like Lovisa have precise specifications for how their stores look. Flooring, wall finishes, lighting, fixture placement — everything needs to match the brand standard exactly.

Timeline pressure — a retail location sitting empty costs money. Every day past the planned opening date is lost revenue.
