Commercial Restaurant & Kitchen Renovation in Calgary, Alberta
A restaurant renovation is only as good as the kitchen behind it. When Shaked Pancake House needed a complete interior overhaul — including a full commercial kitchen system installation — HL Contracting delivered 2,500 sq ft of finished restaurant space in four months.
About the Project
Client: Shaked Pancake House
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Scope: Full interior renovation, new commercial kitchen system installation Size: 2,500 sq. ft
Timeline: Completed in 4 months
From the dining area to the kitchen — every element of this project was rebuilt to create a functional, welcoming restaurant environment that works as hard as the team running it.

What a Commercial Kitchen Renovation Involves
A commercial kitchen isn't just a bigger version of a residential one. It's a purpose-built production environment that needs to meet health codes, fire safety requirements, and the specific operational needs of the restaurant.
Kitchen system installation — new commercial kitchen systems require precise coordination of gas lines, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, and equipment placement.
Everything needs to work together and pass inspection before service begins.
Health code compliance — Calgary's Environmental Health department inspects commercial kitchens before they open. Surfaces, drainage, ventilation, and equipment placement all need to meet specific standards. Getting this right the first time saves weeks of delays.
Ventilation and exhaust — commercial cooking generates grease, heat, and smoke that residential ventilation can't handle. A proper commercial hood and exhaust system is not optional — it's code.
Interior dining renovation — the front of house needs to match the quality of the kitchen behind it. New flooring, wall finishes, lighting and dining area layout were all completed as part of this project.
Timeline management — a restaurant that's under renovation isn't generating revenue. Four months from start to finish on a 2,500 sq ft full renovation requires tight scheduling and experienced trade coordination.
